Qixi, a traditional romantic day in China rooted in its mythology, consistently ranks as one of the highest-spending festivals of the year. In this year's Qixi Festival (August 22, 2023), GIFTING and SELF-APPRECIATION have emerged as prominent themes in China.
JD.com's latest Qixi Consumption Report reveals the increasing spending of Romance Intention:
- Cosmetics and skincare products packed in love-themed gifting boxes tap the top sales.
- Chinese young buyers show a growing interest in gifting health and wellness products, driven by their desire for holistic well-being for themselves and others. As a result, sports and exercise equipment, such as ski helmets and elliptical machines (with a sales volume increase of x10 times month-on-month), emerged as the top-selling categories on JD.com.
- Post-1990s exhibited a heightened interest in fashion apparel as their preferred gifting choice. Sales of men’s sweaters saw a remarkable month-on-month increase of approximately 558%. Those born after the 1980s select diamond earrings, gold necklaces, and other jewellery items (+140% MoM).
